The Batman: Cast Introduction & Possible Movie Plot
The fascinating trailer of The Batman has been released. DC Comics have activated the darker mode this time. Obviously, this is one of the most anticipated movies. The trailer shows many characters and a perplexing plot. Here, I'm going to decode the trailer's hints. I will also try to give you a possible plot of the movie.
Cast Introduction
The trailer begins with a scene of a duct tape killer in a green jacket, he is our supervillain, The Riddler (Edward Nashton) played by Paul Dano. Obviously, Robert Pattinson is Batman/Bruce Wayne. Jeffrey Wright is shown as James Gordon, the police commissioner of GCPD. It is really hard to identify Colin Farrell in the disguise of The Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot), he has gained weight for that character. Zoe Kravitz is shown as Selina Kyle, yes, The Catwoman. The goons that appear in the white skull's makeup could be The Court of Owls, an organized crime group. John Turturro is shown as Carmine Falcone. We might get to see a gang war between Falcone and Maroni.
The Possible Story of The Batman
(Spoilers)
The trailer is focused on the mayor of Gotham. The victim (face covered with duct tape, 'No More Lies' written on it) could be the mayor (Don Mitchell). The story is about corruption and the mayor might be involved in it. Riddler has left a message for Batman in a green envelope.
What does a liar do when he is dead?
He lies still.
The car crash (DOA: Dead On Arrival) scene should be the mayor's funeral, where we can see another taped-up victim (District Attorney played by Peter Sarsgaard). Robert Pattinson saves a child that may be the mayor's son. Perhaps Riddler does not want them to have a peaceful funeral.
Catwoman may not be in Batman's favour because she is shown as a burglar, she breaks into the crime scene (the mayor's house), so Catwoman may have some connection with the mayor. Either she is looking for evidence against the mayor, or she can be involved with him and trying to destroy evidence after the mayor's death. In the end, Catwoman may help Batman to solve the riddle or catch The Riddler.

Nirvana's song (Something In The Way) playing in the background indicates that this could be the loneliest version of Batman. You can notice that The Riddler is after Batman throughout the trailer. While chasing criminals at night, Batman might have failed to catch criminals in the daylight, yes, the corrupted leaders/officers. The Riddler and The Court of Owls could be working together, they are killing corrupted leaders one by one. Maybe Batman's family has a connection with Gotham's history of corruption.
The movie's shooting still hasn't finished. The trailer contains mostly incidents involving the mayor. For example, his duct-taped-up murder, his funeral, newspaper articles about winning the election & Maroni drug busting, so I would say that the trailer is one-sided, which reveals limited details. I would assume that they made this trailer from the first half of the movie. We still need to explore a lot before reaching any conclusion. I think they will release a second trailer in the future, which may introduce us to a different side of the movie.
