Dreamland: A Vintage Bank Robbery Movie Starring Margot Robbie

'Dreamland' sets in 1935 when farmer families face a phase of the great depression when banks are being robbed. Our story revolves around two characters, a teenage farmer boy, Eugene Baker (Finn Cole); and an outlaw lady, Allison Wells (Margot Robbie).

The narrator of our story is Eugene's stepsister, Phoebe Evans (Darby Camp, voiced by Lola Kirke). She is recollecting her memories of 20 years ago and trying to tell the real story of his half-brother, Eugene. It takes place somewhere in the dusty drylands of Texas. Eugene's life hasn't been easy, his father left the family when he was just five years old, in search of a better life in Mexico. Eugene wants to meet his father, and he also dreams of life in the Gulf Coast of Mexico. (He has never seen the sea and the greenery, but he dreams about it, his dreamland.) George Evans (Travis Fimmel) is his stepfather and the deputy of the county. It appears that Eugene is not much connected with him. When Eugene met Allison, he found a reason to run off from the drylands.

Allison Wells is a bank robber. Her last robbery turned out violent, she and her partner had a deadly encounter with the police. Her partner lost his life but she managed to escape and hid herself in Eugene's barn, that's how Eugene met Allison. She was shot in the leg, somehow she convinced Eugene to help her and keep herself hidden. Plus, he is attracted to Allison. That was the prologue and the first half of the movie. The second half takes us on an adventurous ride of Bonnie and Clyde. (Not truly Bonnie and Clyde, but Eugene-Allison duo gave me a feeling of them for a moment.)

I would say that the story is plain-speaking, the vintage lifestyle is fair. Blaming the circumstances for your bad decisions doesn't work here. You might think that I am exaggerating things too much, but Finn Cole looked a bit like Tom Hardy in a few scenes. I adored the performance of Margot Robbie. It is an average crime-thriller film, but Margot Robbie makes it special. I recommend this movie if you're a fan of her.
