Viena And The Fantomes: A Road Trip To Nowhere

'Viena And The Fantomes' is a film about Viena's (Dakota Fanning) journey with a punk rock band named The Fantomes. This movie is less about the band and more about the life of Viena. Viena is a newcomer roadie. She isn't actually part of the band, just a helping hand. She is trying to make her place in the band. Midge (Zoë Kravitz) is a boss lady, yes, the band manager, but you will barely see her around in the movie. Albert (Caleb Landry Jones) is Midge's boyfriend and a band member. Freddy (Jeremy Allen White) is an electro drummer. Albert & Freddy both seem to be unstable and weird. They behave like psychopaths. Keyes (Frank Dillane) is also a roadie with the crew.

Viena And The Fantomes Movie Aesthetic Poster

'Viena And The Fantomes' is mostly shot on the road, but it is not really a road trip movie. It is about a love triangle between Viena, Freddy, and Keyes. The movie takes place where Viena is on the road with the band. She hangs out with Keyes, but a crew member, Boyer (Philip Ettinger), is trying to hook up with her. Viena isn't interested in him. Later they fired Viena, but Freddy somehow let her stay with the band. Maybe that's why Viena compromises her love for Keyes and decides to be with Freddy. The rest of the movie is about the fuss among these three lovers.

The first hour is kind of boring, nothing phenomenal happens. You will feel as if the movie's heading nowhere. Also, a familiar type of love triangle appears in the end. The lifeless tint effect of the movie makes the cinematography dull.

The movie's cast has the potential to deliver a blockbuster, that's why I watched this movie, but there is no depth in the story nor in the characters. This movie is about a punk rock band; however, there aren't any good songs in the movie, except a few instrumentals. I have no reason to suggest 'Viena And The Fantomes', but if you like Dakota Fanning, then you should give it a watch.
