The Silencing: Inspired by Wind River?
'The Silencing' is a crime thriller, it follows Rayburn (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who is a wildlife sanctuary keeper. This sanctuary is named after Rayburn's missing daughter, Gwen Swanson. Rayburn's life hasn't been good since his daughter got lost. His marriage fell apart. He lives in a remote cabin by himself. The mystery begins when they find a dead body of a young girl. A serial killer is hunting down young girls in an ancient way. Sheriff Alice (Annabelle Wallis) is investigating this case. Also, she is trying to prove that she is different from other cops. But circumstances don't appear to be in her favour. It was an unpredictable movie, but its end didn't justify the suspense they built throughout the movie. It took a mediocre turn and turned out to be a pointless revenge story.
'Wind River ' is also a murder mystery but based on real-life events. In this movie, Cory's (Jeremy Renner) character is similar to Rayburn's character because both of them are suffering from the same pain, the pain of losing a daughter and the marriage falling apart. Cory is a hunter who protects from predators. In 'Wind River', the case is being investigated by a female character, Jane (Elizabeth Olsen). Similar to sheriff Alice's character, not very good at her job. Rayburn helps to catch the killer. Similarly, Cory helps the FBI agent to solve the mystery.
If you pay attention, then you will notice that both movies have shots focused on barefoot. Cory and the killer also mentioned "the snow and silence" when they were having a conversation on the mountain, maybe that's how 'The Silencing' movie title came up. Coincidentally, Natalie's (Kelsey Asbille) boyfriend's name is Matt Rayburn (Jon Bernthal) in 'Wind River', and our sanctuary guy's name is Rayburn in 'The Silencing'.
The end of the movie is not similar, maybe that's why 'The Silencing' movie's end isn't justifying. It could have ended differently. On the other hand, 'Wind River' movie's end is satisfying, even it is based on real-life events. Usually, fictional mysteries are better than real-life mysteries. But in the case of 'The Silencing', it didn't work. Wind River's script is heart-touching and very well-written.
If you haven't seen 'Wind River', then I will suggest watching 'The Silencing' first. Because if you watch 'Wind River' first, then it may spoil your fun for 'The Silencing'. Although 'The Silencing' is a watchable mystery movie, but 'Wind River' is a better version.
