Yes God Yes: Is It Really a Sin?

After the satisfying response to the short film 'Yes, God, Yes (2017)', Karen Maine decided to make an extended version of her directorial debut movie. It is starred by 'Stranger Things' (Netflix series) fame Natalia Dyer, and the supporting role is played by '13 Reasons Why' fame Alisha Boe. This movie represents the orthodox side of society in the old days. It also shows the problem of sex-shaming and the lack of sex education.

Yes God Yes Natalia Dyer Movie Aesthetic Poster

It is about a naive girl who comes from a religious family and studies in a strict Catholic high school. Yes, this girl is Alice (Natalia Dyer), she is reaching adulthood. Alice's life changed when somebody spread a rumour about her in school that she tossed someone's salad. But the irony is that she doesn't even know what tossing salad means. It is slang (related to oral sex) which you can Google search to find out the meaning. This story took place in a time when computers were big and touchscreen mobiles hadn't been discovered, so it was difficult to access information. Alice was looking for the meaning of tossing salad throughout the movie. She even asked a random person on American Online (AOL), but it got intimating.

Alice and her friend Laura (Francesca Reale) take part in Kirkos, a life-changing Catholic youth retreat program runs by the school. Alice was feeling guilty about sexual things which were actually normal at her age. Her perspective changes on sex and shame after taking part in this retreat. She finds that students, leaders, and even the church's father don't follow the rules they lecture about, everyone is a hypocrite.

Is it really a sin? I don't think so, it is a part of growing up. You will discover after watching the movie. This movie will also help you to discover unknown sexual slangs! It isn't a blockbuster movie, but it is not a bad choice to kill time. If you like Natalia Dyer, then you should watch it. If you haven't seen the shorter version of this movie, then don't watch it first because both movies have a similar storyline.
